Las Terrenas, once a sleepy, little fishing village on the North Coast of the Samana Peninsula, is today a prime vacation destination for visitors to the Dominican Republic. • Excursions: The 4-wheel drive and horseback riding trips are very popular because they allow you to see otherwise non-accessible areas of beauty.

Dining and nightlife

There are plenty of cafs and oceanfront restaurants where you can find people sipping wine, over long, leisurely lunches, or having a mid-day break over a caf latte. Cacao Beach Casino is the only casino in Las Terrenas. On Playa Bonita, it's open daily from 7 PM to 4 AM. Kick'n Ass Bar & Grill, run by an American expat, is a lively place for drinks and friendly conversation.
